Today, as in 1959, Sprenger Retirement Centers continue to be privately held by the Sprenger Family. The organization has grown to include a family of 10 Retirement Communities located throughout Northeast Ohio . We employ a staff of over 1,200 employees who maintain the same philosophy of care and dedication that was established so long ago by our founder, Grace Sprenger.
From 1968 to 1990, Sprenger Retirement grew over 200% under the direction of Tony and Donel Sprenger, Grace's two sons. Amherst Manor was expanded to 102 beds and Autumn Aegis, Lorain Manor and Anchor Lodge were all purchased.
The '90s were an exciting time, when Tony and Donel hired the third generation to assume the day to day responsibilities. Two of Tony's sons, Scott and Mark, joined the business, in addition to Donel's son-in-law, Chris Mallet. From 2002 to 2006, additional members of the Sprenger family became part of the organization including Donel’s daughter Nicole, Tony’s son Michael, and Donel’s son-in-law Doug Hutsenpiller.

As with their predecessors, the third generation of Sprenger’s wasted no time in making their mark on the future of the organization. The third generation of Sprenger’s led the way to purchase the Elms Retirement Village in Wellington , Horn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Smithville Western Commons in Wooster , and Heather Knoll Nursing and Rehabilitation in Tallmadge . Sprenger Retirement Centers doubled in size from four nursing centers to eight in just three years.
In 2004, Sprenger Retirement Centers and Kopf Construction joined forces to expand Towne Center Community Campus and develop a leading edge continuing care community in Avon Lake . The new project includes independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing care, and a memory support program. Completion of the new construction is slated for January 2007.
In February of 2006, Sprenger Retirement Centers purchased Grande Village Retirement Community in Twinsburg making this their tenth location.
Sprenger Retirement Centers’ financial savvy and passion for caring will enable them to continue to succeed and grow well into the future. |
